Alexander Blok’s House-Museum was opened in 1980, on the centenary of his birth. The museum consists of two apartments located on the 2nd and 4th floor of an old apartment building of the merchant M. Petrovsky.
The memorial apartment number 21 on the 4th floor is where the poet lived between 1912 and 1920, where the living room, dining room, bedroom and living room of his wife Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleeva-Block were restored. This part of the exhibition painstakingly recreates the details of the poet’s family life called “Unity and the Environment.” The main emphasis is on the small details and objects of the interior, to imagine the daily life of the era much better. “Pushkin of the 20th century “. Here you can see that the wedding icons of Kazan survive, the Mother of God; Inheritances of the Blok family, such as the tablecloth belonging to another grandfather of the great poet and the pottery of his wife’s collection.
The Blok’s own path is dedicated to the exhibition on floor number 23, and on the second floor, where the poet’s mother lived. It is mainly dedicated to the latter, the most productive years of Blok’s life not only provides detailed information about the author’s “creative workshop” but also recreates the poetic atmosphere of the unique Silver Age.
He spent the last months of his life in this place, due to the policy carried out by the Bolsheviks to seal the apartment number 21, so that his wife and he also were forced to move with his mother at that time.
Then a literary exhibition dedicated to the creative evolution of the poet is placed. Historical and literary themes provide autographs of Blok and his contemporaries, historical photographs, first editions of the poet’s books, illustrations for poems and plays. It is curious to organize the space of this part of the museum, the visitor is like inside a giant book, whose pages are decorated adequately by the walls. The exhibition ends in the hall of Aide. The museum regularly hosts literary evenings, concerts and annual scientific readings devoted to the life and work of Alexander Blok.
