The Museum and Exhibition center of Rosfoto is one of the first museums in Russia dedicated exclusively to the art of photography. It was inaugurated in 2002 with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation in the former building of the insurance company in the Great Sea. Nowadays the collection includes more than 23 thousand copies. These talk about the history of photography in the world in general, its styles and genres. Among the most valuable articles there is a collection of photographs by Georgiya Raeva, marked by a silver medal at an exhibition in Paris in 1900, as well as stories and photos about the life of Boris Kudoyarova wrapped in Leningrad. The collection is constantly updated, the museum acquires its exhibitions from around the world, and takes them as a gift.
Active scientific work is carried out In the museum, so that in its walls the historical archives and the whole collections of the history with the photos of the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries were gathered, which require the study of the art waiting for the right moment in the stands of the exhibition halls.
In addition to the works of Russian masters, the world of photographic works of art are stored here, in particular, the Swiss collection, Photoglob’s photolithography publisher is based on a series of images of cities in Italy, among years 1870-1900, as well as a collection of works of ferrotipo type of American artists of years 1880-1900.
Exposure and educational activities
The museum carries out active exhibition activities and educational and scientific work. Exhibitions are held regularly in the exhibition halls in St. Petersburg, as well as in other cities and regions of Russia and abroad (about 30 exhibitions a year). In addition, it serves as a platform for touring photographic exhibitions around the world.
Rosfoto’s scientific work is organized through lectures, seminars and consultations with the scientific community. A wide range of conferences, educational programs and public events such as the “Night of Museums” held annually. The museum complex has a shop where you can buy albums and photography books, and you plan to open the library.
